PM links economic progress in Khi to political stability

Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani Thursday said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had extended its support to the government on a number of occasions and welcomed the return of Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad as Sindh Governor, Geo News reported.

Addressing a press conference in London, the Prime Minister linked the economic progress in Karachi to the political stability.

He said Kalabagh dam would be built after evolving a consensus among the four provinces.

Gilani said governments could not be toppled on any individual’s wish, adding that all the state institutions including the judiciary were effectively functioning in the country and ‘if anyone has a problem he should knock the door of justice’.

He said difference of opinion is part of the democratic process but it would not be allowed to get derailed.

To a question on persistent energy crisis in the country, the Premier said: “Why the Kalabagh dam project could not be completed in Musharraf’s rule?”

He said the government was engaged in talks with Iran in connection with importing electricity to deal with the energy crisis at hand.
