Blasts in Mumbai leave 8 dead, over 50 hurt

Eight people were killed and over 50 sustained injuries when three blasts ripped through as many markets in the heart of Mumbai, Indian media reported on Wednesday.

Indian home ministry has confirmed the occurrence of blasts in Dadar market, Zaivery market and Oprah House in which more casualties are feared. Improvised explosive devices were used in the explosions, the Indian home ministry sources added.

One of the blasts took place in an electricity meter while another one in a taxi, an Indian TV channel said.

Earlier the initial reports said that blasts caused damage to opera house and other buildings located in the above markets.

There was a large number of people present in the market when the explosions took place.
