Syrian troops take control of flashpoint eastern city

Syrian troops have taken control of the eastern flashpoint city of Deir el-Zour following intense shelling and gunfire, an activist said today.
The activist said the city's eastern Mattar Qadim neighbourhood was the last to fall today.
The city has been under attack by President Bashar Assad's forces for four days.
The international community has stepped up pressure on Mr Assad, with envoys from India, Brazil and South Africa due in the capital, Damascus.
Yesterday, Turkey's foreign minister urged Mr Assad to end the killings.
US officials said President Barack Obama's administration is preparing to explicitly demand his departure.
Rights groups say about 1,700 people have been killed since March.
