Japan announces Tokyo's bid for 2020 Olympics

Japan's Olympic Committee on Saturday said Tokyo is Japan's candidate to host the 2020 summer Games aiming to help the country recover from the devastating March earthquake and tsunami.

Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) president Tsunekazu Takeda made the announcement at a reception marking the 100th anniversary of the JOC, which was attended by International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge.
