Encroachments being removed under special drive: TMA

Operation against illegal construction on the banks of Nullah Leh continued here Saturday while 30 houses and 40 slums constructed unlawfully on the state land on the banks of Nullah, were demolished.

The operation was launched by Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) as a precautionary measure to avoid any mishap during the monsoon season said TMA spokesman here on Saturday.

He said encroachments of different types are being removed from city areas under special drive launched on the directives of Administrator Rawal Town.

In an operation launched against land grabbers, Municipal Administration has demolished dozens of houses and slums constructed unlawfully on the government land, he said.

The operation was conducted with heavy machinery. A big police contingent with the officials of Municipal authority was present on this occasion to control any situation. However, no considerable resistance was faced and the operation is being completed swiftly, he added.

Administrator Rawal Town appreciating the performance of the team has said that the operation to recover government land from illegal possession of land grabbers would continue and no one would be spared in this connection, he said.

A central control room has been established in Rawal Town office to monitor the flood situation and to make timely arrangement to confront any emergency situation during the monsoon season, he said.

The inspectors concerned have also been instructed strictly to initiate process for the vacation of 300 buildings declared dangerous in the city so that loss of human lives and property could be averted, the spokesman added.

Under the operation launched to remove encroachments from city areas, today 25 shopkeepers were imposed fine while two trucks loaded with goods were confiscated and deposited in the TMA store, he said
