Trial begins of Indonesian terror suspect

JAKARTA, Indonesia: One of Indonesia’s top terror suspects has gone on trial on charges of helping set up a militant training camp uncovered in Aceh province last year.
Abu Tholut, 50, was arrested in December during a series of police raids in Central Java province.
Prosecutors told a Jakarta court on Monday that Tholut helped set up the Aceh training camp for a group which allegedly was planning attacks on foreigners and assassinations of the country’s moderate Muslim leaders.
They said he procured M-16 assault rifles and other weapons for the camp.
He could face the death penalty if convicted.
